Point, Counterpoint

may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old

may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it's sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young

and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there's never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile
(e.e. cummings)
The thing that I love about poetry is that wordplay challenges your brain to tease apart the meaning of something. Almost always a riddle, e. e. cummings is one of my favorite poets because his mind is obsessed with love, youth, sex and understanding their relations. Although this is a fairly straightforward supplication to be malleable and eager throughout life, I find it useful to remember that myself, and things, will continue to change.
you shall above all things be glad and young
For if you're young, whatever life you wear

it will become you;and if you are glad
whatever's living will yourself become.
Girlboys may nothing more than boygirls need:
i can entirely her only love

whose any mystery makes every man's
flesh put space on;and his mind take off time

that you should ever think

Way Down in the Hole

I just finished watching all of The Wire today. I don't want to talk too much about since it's such a stereotypical thing that white people like but I feel like the new blog is the place where I can say a bit. I was told by lots of friends to watch it since it's apparently the greatest show ever made. So I started it when I started grad school to procrastinate.

My favourite character on the show is Bubbles. Bubbles is a guy who struggled with a heroin addiction and tried to get his life back on track over the course of five seasons. He was an informant to the cops to pay for his drugs, sold hats to gang members and always managed to get survive. By the end of the show he had turned his life around and was clean for over a year. It was a nice subplot to follow for the series.

In the last episode he reads some Kafka and I was very intrigued by the passage:

“You can hold back from the suffering of the world, you have free permission to do so, and it is in accordance with your nature. But perhaps the holding back is the one suffering you could have avoided.”

Sheeeeeeiiiiit, that's deep. That pretty much sums up the show. The show is all about the game. Everyone is a player and contribute their part to the game. No matter what you do you're in the game. If you try to ignore the game then you're just gonna hurt yourself 'cause it's still being played.

Recently, I was tried to quit playing with games.

But now I am realizing that no matter what I can't stop.

I guess I'll play on.

Shit don't change.

Game the same. Just got more fierce.
